McDONOUGH GA:

"Dancers with Heart Line Dance Workshop"

Saturday - September 11, 2010

Wyatt Earp, a regular at the McDonough line dances and also at Wild Bill’s / Cowboys etc recently suffered several heart attacks that ended with heart bypass surgery which added up to some astronomical medical expenses. Knowing what big hearts our line dance family has and knowing that we love to dance, what better way could we show our love and support than to have a "benefit line dance workshop".

Anyone wanting to attend the workshop can register and pay at the door as well as contacting any of the instructors to register and pay. The doors will open at 9:30 AM and the first lesson will start at 10:00 AM. We will have two dance floors at the Moose Lodge! The main ballroom and the dance floor in the social quarters. Therefore we will have beginner and intermediate dances being taught at the same time.

Cost is only $20 for the workshop which runs from 10 AM to 5 PM with a lunch break. THEN, to help you make a full day of dancing, the regular monthly Moose Lodge Line Dance will be that night!! We are scheduling a dinner break from 5 PM to 8 PM and there are plenty of places to eat in the McDonough area. (Some are talking about a "field trip" down to Buckner’s)

Since the benefit and the monthly dance are two different things, the regular $5 admission is not included in the $20 for the benefit and will be collected at the door for the evening dance. This is a full day of dance for a total of $25…. Take a look at all the "hometown" instructors listed, and you will see this is a wonderful dance opportunity for a very reasonable expenditure.

I am looking forward to a great day of dancing and camaraderie with our line dance family and friends. With the monthly line dance at the Moose being the same date, we can continue into the night dancing the new dances learned. The dance area is SMOKE FREE.

$20.00 workshop fee does NOT include the $5 cost of the evening Moose Lodge Dance.

Please pay any of the instructors listed above.

The Moose Lodge will have food available to purchase during the workshop.

The Henry County Moose Lodge is located just off Georgia 155, west of I-75. For those wanting to look it up on Map Quest or Google Map or put it in your GPS, the technical address is:

91 Hunter Chase
McDonough, Georgia 30253

Take either I-675 or I-75 south of I-285 to the 5th exit below where 675 and 75 merge. The Exit on I-75 is 216 which is Georgia Route 155. This is the southern of the McDonough exits. At the bottom of the ramp, turn right toward Griffin, (Ga-155 south). There will be a Quality (formerly Holiday) Inn on your right as you come off I-75.

Follow Ga-155 for about a mile and turn RIGHT into the entrance to the "Hunters' Run" subdivision on your right. You MUST turn into the subdivision entrance street to get to the driveway for the Moose Lodge. The Lodge drive does not connect directly to Ga-155.

Once inside, follow the hall around to the right to the rear of the building for their ballroom. It is a tile floor. Come on down and give it a shot...

If you are coming from the Loganville - Lawrenceville or Grayson area, Get on Georgia 20 going south and follow this through Conyers, Magnet, and into McDonough. Once in McDonough where Ga-20 goes right,(toward the square) you keep going straight so watch the signs and stay on Ga-155 south. This will circle around and once you go under I-75, you will see the Quality Inn on your right and the directions above will apply.

WEDNESDAY & SATURDAY:

The Dance Bunch plans to be at WILD BILL's in Duluth on Wednesday and at the VFW in Conyers for their monthly dance on Saturday night.

CONYERS:

On Saturday, the dance hall of choice will be the VFW in Conyers GA. Instructor Dianne Fisher conducts classes there on Wednesday night so they are somewhat used to line dancers. This Saturday is their "monthly dance". Keep in mind this is BOTH couple and line dance. Be SURE you follow dance floor etiquette please.

Derrell Jones is again looking forward to having the Dance Bunch come out and reminds you to bring your music disc in case he does not have a song you want to dance to.

Doors open at 7 PM and cost is only $5

Directions: From 285 take I-20 going east to Exit 80 which is "West Ave"., Take a left across the bridge so you are on the north side of I-20. (Obviously if coming into Conyers from the east you would turn right). NOTE… if coming out via 285 check the Ga DOT web site to see if they are still doing paving work on I-20 between Panola Road and 285!! Could cause you to need to detour. Let us know if you need options!!

About a block north of I-20 and the first stop light turn left on to Dogwood Road, (There is a Mrs. Winners Chicken on the far right corner where you make this turn)!!

Follow Dogwood around a couple of curves past the Ramada Inn to VWF Drive and turn right. The VFW is a 1 story white building on the right up VFW about 1 long block

For you GPS folks the address is 1432 VFW Drive Conyers, Ga 30014. Since some GPS can get you lost, wanted you to have the above as well.

For more information on the VFW contact Derrell Jones at 770-324-2133

DINNER:

We will be eating at FOLKS Restaurant located at 1081 Iris Drive SE – Conyers Ga 30094. We hope you will come have dinner. We will meet about 6 :00 to 6:30 PM and then go over to the VFW. To get to Folks if coming out from Atlanta, continue down I-20 one more exit to Ga 138/Ga 20 which is Exit 82.

Take a right. Go to the first light which is Old Salem Rd and go right again.

Old Salem mysteriously becomes Iris drive and Folks is about ½ mile down, past the Hooters and on the left side. Folks number is 770-922-2830 if you have problems. It is a short drive over to the VFW from here.

Dancers Night Out brings in a great mix of couple and Line Dancers… REMEMBER, wherever you dance!! IF you see someone "in the lane", encourage them to pull to the middle of the dance floor. They might not know that the edges must be kept open for the couple dancers to pass by…

Also, Couple dancers, please do not cut in real close because some of the line dances move a good way and when the line dancers suddenly shift, they could be in your path!

THANKS and let’s keep it fun and safe for everyone out there.

Dancer’s Tubes for shoes: I have a supply of the tubes that are placed over shoes to improve a smooth feel on the dance floor. Please ask me about it if you’re in need of these. These work fine with athletic shoes, or appropriate street shoes (shoes that are secure on your feet). Be sure to leave some of the sole on your shoes exposed, so your feet do not slip too much!

Hi Dance Community : )

It is hard to believe that it is the end of August already. This summer has just gone by so fast!!! I hope that you have had a chance to enjoy the summer : )

Thanks to everyone who came to Cowboy's last Thursday, August 26th for the **FOOTLOOSE EXTRA CASTING CALL**. It was such a hot, humid afternoon and I know that everyone had to wait in a very long line outside and again once they got inside for the photo shoot. Hope that everyone had the opportunity to get their photo taken and really hope that something good comes your way : ) Still waiting to hear when the date will be for the line dancers to get together. As time gets closer, Ann & I will review the dance, *Cowboy Rhythm* to the Footloose song : ) I will get word out to all of you as soon as I hear something more concrete. Thank you for your patience!!

Please Remember to put *Saturday, September 18th* on your calendar for the next ***Dancer's Night Out at Cowboy's***!!!

Bill & Lisa teach a variety of dance styles - Two-Step, West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Waltz and more : )

Dancin' Tweety Leslie's *IMPORTANT REMINDER & PET PEEVE*: Please remember **DO NOT BRING DRINKS and/or CIGARETTES** (or any other lit items) on the dance floor. THIS IS SO DANGEROUS!!! I DO NOT want anyone getting burnt or falling on the dance floor - Thanks for helping keep our dance floor safe!

Sometimes the dance floor can be a bit tacky/sticky and if you are looking for a little something to help with the slickness of your dance shoes, I sell the *FOOT TUBES* which are the knitted bands that go around your shoes to assist with slickness. I have Black, White and a few Tan foot tubes. These are great little additions to help your shoes if you need to add some slickness. Please see me if you are interested in seeing and/or purchasing a pair. Please remember to test the dance floor before venturing out to make sure it is OK and if you need some dance wax, there is usually some on the edges of the dance floor that you can put on your shoes. Please remember to use sparingly because the wax can make your shoes very slippery. If there is not any wax already in the corners of the dance floor, please let someone know and they will try to get some for you : )

Please continue to use your Dance Floor Etiquette!!! If you do not know about Dance Floor Etiquette, Line dancers please stay in the middle of the floor leaving the outside open for the couple dancers to travel around and when it is crowded, line dancers please remember to try to take smaller steps so we do not get in the outside lane and couple dancers please try not to cut in too close or across the middle of the floor. Great when we ALL work together.

I hope that everyone has a nice week. Please have a good and safe Labor Day Holiday.

Happy Dancin' as if Nobody is watching,

Dancin' Tweety Leslie and Ann

SINGLES DANCES

Sunday Sept 5 7:00 - 11:00

Hello everyone,

We have another good turnout again last week so I used my new Sony High Definition Camcorder and got some awesome video!!!!

This weekend the Ladies get discounts on 2 nights so I expect we'll have very good turnouts both nights and we will draw singles from all the 21 Metro Counties. Live in the Burbs... Come Dancing!

Thanks to everyone who came out! It's really cool watching new people meet and dance for the first time and see the momentum of the music build and before you know it, everyone is up dancing and then only sits down when they need a breather!!!

Ladies have commented that more men are now showing up earlier because they have finally realized that the earlier they show up, the more Ladies they can dance with...

Ladies, I must compliment you... you are dressing and looking nicer than ever before! I know the Gentlemen have noticed and appreciate you.

I believe that ALL our Regulars will be back this week and many new singles will again join us.

If you have e-mailed us to be on the e-mail blasts and NEVER came to the dance, don't sit home over the long Labor Day weekend when you could be out meeting new friends, dancing and having fun again.

It's NO FUN sitting home by yourself and being lonely and wishing you had a nice place to come to where people dress nice, are friendly and want to dance with you.

Ladies.... Increase your DANCING OPPORTUNITIES by being Pro-Active and asking the guys to dance during the Ladies Choice songs... When you do this, more men WILL ASK YOU TO DANCE!

Gentlemen... We will have more Single Ladies all in one spot on both weekend nights than anywhere in the Metro 21 County area... Get there early and dance with them!

EVERYONE GET OUT AND GET INVOLVED IN THE SINGLES DANCE SCENE THIS FRIDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHTS... YOU'LL HAVE FUN!

Here is the info on the almost back to back events at the Riverside Lodge in Gatlinburg TN. PLEASE CLOSELY look at the dates, the instructors and the event name to be sure you register for the correct one (or more) you want to drive up for. Here are the details on all AND a contact e-mail. YOU can e-mail and the event directors can send you their forms if you are just itching to get your name on their attendee list J

Subject: Dancing to the Music
From: Debra Cleckler - NTA VP of Membership - NTA Dance Committee - debb@cleckler.com

I recently saw a cute line dance on YouTube danced to the song "Little White Church" but it did not work well when it came to being accurately counted to the music. The steps seem to match the music fairly well and I enjoyed the dance but felt like I was dancing a little "off" according to the counts.

The first phrase of the 4/4 time music has the traditional 32 counts. The line dance choreographer was presenting a "32 count" line dance. When she had completed her 32 counts she was only 16 beats (or only half of the phrase) into the song.

When I phrased out the dance it occurred to me that the rhythm was 1& 2, 3& 4, (Polka) and it should be counted that way. The choreographer had counted it 1-2-3-4, (for counts 1& 2), and 5-6-7-8 (for counts 3&4). I think that if the choreographer would reconsider how to count the dance it would match the music better by using all 32 counts of each phrase.

Music should drive dance. Choreographers should know this. NTA offers a workshop on music (Dance Fundamentals V) which teaches how to recognize and use the different rhythms in many styles of music. If you are interested in learning more or setting up NTA workshops in your area contact me at mailto:debb@cleckler.com/t_blank

FOR A CHUCKLE:

BAPTIST DINNER FOR EIGHT

A group of country friends from the Cottonwood Baptist Church wanted to get
together on a regular basis to socialize, and play games. The lady of the
house was to prepare the meal.

When it came time for Al and Janet to be the hosts, Janet wanted to outdo
all the others. Janet decided to have mushroom-smothered steak, but,
mushrooms are expensive. She then told her husband, No mushrooms, they are
too high.

He said, 'Why don't you go down in the pasture and pick some of those
mushrooms?

There are plenty in the creek bed.'

She said, 'No, some wild mushrooms are poison.'

He said, 'Well, I see varmints eating them and they're OK.'

So, Janet decided to give it a try She picked a bunch, washed, sliced, and
diced them for her smothered steak. Then she went out on the back porch and
gave Ole' Spot (the yard dog) a double handful.

Ole' Spot ate every bite. All morning long, Janet watched Ole' Spot and the
wild mushrooms didn't seem to affect him, so she decided to use them.

The meal was a great success, and Janet even hired a helper lady from town
to help her serve. She had on a white apron and a fancy little cap on her
head.

After everyone had finished, they relaxed, socialized, and played Phase 10
and Mexican train dominoes. About then, the helper lady from town, came in
and whispered in Janet's ear, 'Mrs Williams, Ole' Spot just died'

Janet went into hysterics. After she finally calmed down, she called the
doctor and told him what had happened. The doctor said, 'That's bad, but I
think we can take care of it. I will call for an ambulance and I will be
there as quick as possible.

We'll give everyone enemas and we will pump out everyone's stomach.
Everything will be fine. Just keep them calm.'

Soon they could hear the siren as the ambulance was coming down the road.
The EMT's and the doctor had suitcases, syringes, and a stomach pump.

One by one, they took each person into the bathroom, gave them an enema, and
pumped out their stomach. After the last one was finished, the doctor came
out and said, 'I think everything will be fine now.' Then he left.

They were all looking pretty weak sitting around the living room, and about
this time, the helper lady came in and said, 'You know, that fellow that ran
over Ole' Spot never even stopped.

For the good of the order

(Non dance related but you might like to know…..)

This is really something, really pretty cool!!! This is worth the watch.

 http://wimp.com/dolphinbubbles/

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now here is something SERIOUS you need to watch…

Technology is so wonderful; how to break into a home in less than 6
seconds with audio/visual aids!!

Please look at your garage door. These are typical on newer releases

ALSO how many of you NEVER lock the door from the garage to the

house… BET you do after looking at this.

Someone sent me this and said "After our home inspection the inspector

noted that our garage door had a dent in it. Rhys and I were in the

garage last night talking about it and trying to figure out how it

got a dent in it. Finally figured out someone tried to break in.

Then I searched YouTube and found the below video.
Please watch it. I took the pull string off of ours and zip tied the
lever up to the slider. Now you have to cut the zip tie in order to
release the lever. Please pass on".
